Happy Birthday, Krissy!

I want to wish Kris a most Happy Birthday. When family members were asked to come up with one word to describe her there were a few that kept coming up first and foremost - See if you can guess what they were. She has always had the smile that made the sun shine since she was a little girl - and the curly blonde hair that all of us envied! I've never heard her say a harsh word to or about anyone, and she is always such a positive force to enjoy. She even makes the birds sing!

The Bathing Suit

Can any of you recognize Mother and Aunt Dott in this line-up of Bathing Beauties?

When I was a child in the 1950s the bathing suit for the mature figure was boned, trussed and reinforced, not so much sewn as engineered. They were built to hold back and uplift and they did a good job. Today's stretch fabrics are designed for the prepubescent girl with a figure carved from a potato chip.

The mature woman has a choice-she can either go up front to the maternity department and try on a floral suit with a skirt, coming away looking like a hippopotamus who escaped from Disney's Fantasia or she can wander around every run of the mill department store trying to make a sensible choice from what amounts to a designer range of florescent rubber bands. What choice did I have? I wandered around, made my sensible choice and entered the chamber of horrors known as the fitting room.

The first thing I noticed was the extraordinary tensile strength of the stretch material. The Lycra used in bathing costumes was developed, I believe, by NASA to launch small rockets from a slingshot; which give the added bonus that if you manage to actually lever yourself into one, you are protected from shark attacks - as any shark taking a swipe at your passing midriff would immediately suffer whiplash. I fought my way into the bathing suit, but as I twanged the shoulder strap in place, I gasped in horror - my boobs had disappeared!

Eventually, I found one boob cowering under my left armpit. It took a while to find the other. At last I located it flattened beside my seventh rib...

The problem is that modern bathing suits have no bra cups! The mature woman is meant to wear her boobs spread across her chest like a speed bump. I realigned my speed bump and lurched toward the mirror to take a full view assessment.

The bathing suit fit all right, but unfortunately it only fit those bits of me willing to stay inside it. The rest of me oozed out rebelliously from top, bottom, and sides. I looked like a lump of play dough wearing undersized cling wrap.

As I tried to work out where all those extra bits had come from, the prepubescent sales girl popped her head through the curtain; 'Oh, there you are,' she said, admiring the bathing suit.

I replied that I wasn't so sure and asked what else she had to show me. I tried on a cream crinkled one that made me look like a lump of masking tape, and a floral two piece which gave the appearance of an over sized napkin in a serving ring.

I struggled into a pair of leopard skin bathers with ragged frills and came out looking like Tarzan's Jane, pregnant with triplets and having a rough day.

I tried on a BLACK number with a midriff and looked like a jellyfish in mourning.

I tried on a bright pink pair with such a high cut leg I thought I would have to wax my eyebrows to wear them.

Finally, I found a suit that fit...a two-piece affair with a shorts style bottom and a loose blouse-type top.

It was cheap, comfortable, and bulge-friendly, so I bought it. My ridiculous search had a successful outcome, I figured. When I got home, I found a label which read -- 'Material might become transparent in water.'

So, if you happen to be on the beach or near any other body of water this year and I'm there too… I'll be the one in cut off jeans and a t-shirt!

I'm so glad {not really} that Summer is almost over - maybe next year I'll be in better shape!

Where has Summer GONE?

The last few days have seen quite a change in temperatures and there is the slightest hint of autumn in the early morning hours. When we drove up to the dam on Sunday, I noticed little specks of gold and orange amongst the green where quakies and oaks were beginning to change colors. It's usually when we drive up to Swiss Days that I notice the change in the foliage, and that is this weekend! Where has the summer gone?

The routine - head erect, shoulders back, chest out, inhale thru the nose and exhale out the mouth {am I also supposed to count on the exhale, or just puff?}, tummy tucked, arms swinging, hands flexing {to keep the blood from engorging my fingers so they aren't dragging on the pavement by the time I get home} , glutes tight, kegals {trying, at least}, iPod tuned and earphones installed for EZ listening and a guaranteed smile on my face! No wonder I'm exhausted by the time I hit the back doorstep! It's been perfect for early morning walks - so I've been getting out around 6'ish. It's amazing what the fresh morning air can do for your attitude the rest of the day! As I walked this morning, I noticed - a fortune cookie saying lying on the sidewalk {at first, I walked over it, then thought to myself 'what if it actually has something to say to me?'}, so I turned back a few steps and picked it up with hope in my heart: One who admires you greatly is hidden before your eyes. Ok, that's pretty deep! I noticed a little turquoise {?} booth at a new construction site in our neighborhood with the name "Honey Pot' over the door {such a sweet name for such a disgusting -but necessary- stop!} I noticed the cutest little boy walking to school, who for the last 4 mornings has spoke right up to me and said HI. I thought to myself, what a great self-image he has to take the initiative to say something to an adult without being coaxed!

I love watching the sun come up over the beautiful mountains, love the cool morning air blowing in my face, love watching the community come alive, as people are scurrying off to work, children are waiting at the bus stops, yards are being watered and the fine mist of the sprinklers settles over me, and my thoughts turn to the chores of the day, and where my life will lead me . I come back from a walk and feel refreshed and ready to tackle any problem {or person}!

YIKES, TAGGED!

Whitey has tagged me!

Like Whitey, I encouraged my girls to come up with something unusual and interesting. They never disappoint!

1. Starts sentences – sometimes finishes them!
2. See's more funerals than a mortician - she uses them as social events to catch up with old friends
3. Loves cinnamon anything
4. Always there when we need her
5. Can't wear a clean shirt without spilling something down the front of it!
6. Has never owned a brand new car!

B - O - R - I - N - G! I need to kick my life UP a NOTCH!

However, when I asked a couple of friends they came up with some very interesting points, as well. From the Queen Mother: great memory, loyal friend, insightful, tactful {?}, fun, slut - {she remembers me more from my high school days}! And from MsAmErika: salts{and peppers} everything from eggs, salads, tuna sandwiches, tomato soup, fries, - who knows what else. Also takes 2 (complimentary} flavors of salt water taffy or Starburst candy-molds them together and twists them into new and exciting combinations of flavor!

Now MY six taggets are:

1. Michele http://fivemenandalady.blogspot.com/

2. Heather http://kickbuttmommy.blogspot.com/

3. Debbie http://debandscotts.blogspot.com/

4. Cara http://cara-raisingmen.blogspot.com/

5. Jenna http://sushicat11.blogspot.com/

6. Kris http://poweredbypeanutbutter.blogspot.com/

And for those who can not come up with 6 things about themselves enlist the help of your progeny. That's what they're here for!

These are the rules which need to be passed on:
1). Link to the person who tagged you on your blog.
2). Post the rules of the tag on your blog.
3). Write 6 random things about yourself.
4). Tag 6 people at the end of the post.
5). Let each of the people know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6). Let tagger know that your tag entry has been posted

TOOT, TOOT!

For any of you out there who read my blog - please check out all the fun stuff that Heidi is putting on her blog. She's going to be doing a "POP art" illustration of all the members of both sides of ours and Grant's family. It's proving to be a fun project for her. And after that, I have another thing for her to do -- Mike finally located all his old photos which need to be scanned. She has already done over 300 of my old photographs and slides and we've been able to put them on disks! Blessing on you and Thanks so much, Heidi; you don't know how often I get into them to find something old for blogging! Love you much!

Boz Scaggs

Teri and I spent a lovely evening under the stars Tuesday night at the Boz Scaggs concert at Deer Valley - and needless to say, he did not disappoint us as he sang all his greatest hits. As we were standing in the dark and applauding for an encore, I mentioned to Teri that he hadn't sung one of my favorites - Look What You've Done To Me, when magically he appeared, the lights faded into a dreamy blue, and he started singing that song! YEA! I had a great visit with Teri, was able to do some interesting people watching, and smelt like a stinky cigar by the time I finally fell into bed. For those of you who don't remember or know who Boz Scaggs is check out the link:

Thank you Boz, and thank you Tom for being out of town so that Teri had to find someone she knew that likes Boz as well as she does! Thanks Teri for thinking of your old auntie - it was fun spending time with you.

Happy Birthday to Margie!

Almost looks like a Hollywood glamour pix, doesn't it?

Birthday Blessings

Instead of counting candles,
Or tallying the years,
Contemplate your blessings,
As your birthday nears.

Consider special people
Who love you, and who care,
And others who’ve enriched your life
Just by being there.

Think about the memories
Passing years can never mar,
Experiences great and small
That have made you who you are.

Another year is a happy gift,
So cut your cake, and say,
"Instead of counting birthdays,
I count blessings every day!"
By Joanna Fuchs

Happy Birthday to our SIL/aunt, Margie...hope you have a wonderful day.

We Are Beautiful!

Mom, sisters, Grandpa & Grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins and their kids, friends, boyfriend -- all there to watch Eryn! Poised, gracious, articulate, beautiful, talented, and now with the experience of participating in an event that offers the opportunity to build friendships, practice sportsmanship, build self-confidence, learn, laugh, and maybe take home a crown. Although Eryn did not bring home the crown, she is 'Golden' in all our eyes and we love her for her efforts. She did look stunning in her evening gown of pale yellow; she did a great job on her dance; she carried herself with grace in a swim suit and 3" heels {a feat in itself}, and I believe the platform that she chose to represent - that of 'accepting and helping people with special needs', was admirable. But then, she has been an advocate for the underdog since she was a young child. She was always the one to befriend the one in school who wasn't quite the same as everyone else; making sure they had a friend to walk through the halls with, sitting by them at lunch, and rallying for them when others were cruel. So this seemed to be a 'natural' forum for her to pursue.

Needless to say, she didn't need to win over 5 other girls for all of us to know that she is a WINNER, and we so enjoyed watching her compete last night. She walked away with the "Heart of Kaysville" award and "Best of Evening Wear". We're proud of you Eryn, and I want you to know how special you are to me and how much I love you.

A Day for Celebrations!

It's another anniversary for Woody and I - they just seem to keep rolling around! It seems like just yesterday that I was blogging about it last August!

Happy Birthday to another cute niece - Jordan is the daughter of Craig and Denise, and grand-daughter to DiAnne and Glen. Hope you have a wonderful day!

8.14.2008

Eryn is Paige's beautiful and talented daughter and a grand-daughter of DiAnne and Glen.

She is participating in the Miss Kaysville-Fruit Heights pageant this weekend. As a contestant, she must raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network. I am including the email from her and the link, so that if any of you would like to sponsor her in this you can do so.

I'm getting ready to compete in the Miss America Miss Kaysville/Fruit Heights pageant. As a contestant, I need your help to raise money for Children's Miracle Network and the Miss America Scholarship Fund. Please help me reach my goal of $100.00 by clicking on this link . Your donation will be considered a charitable donation for tax purposes and a receipt will be provided at the end of the year.

Once you have completed a secure on-line donation, your donation will be included in my fund raising total on my personal page. To help even further you can forward this message on to other friends and family to help me in my fund raising efforts. My personal page will track my results and provide a comparison to other contestants.

This year the Miss America Organization has teamed up with Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals. This new partnership gives each contestant the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for two great organizations - Miss America Organization and Children's Miracle Network.

Thanks for your support
Eryn

We wish her love and the best of luck in this endeavor.

Happy Birthday, Janette!

I wanted to send out a birthday wish to Janette - she's always on some kinda trip for her birthday, so we never get to use it as an excuse for a cousin's lunch. Maybe when she gets home . . .

Hope you have a wonderful time and thanks for being such a Sweetie.

Carrots, Eggs and Coffee

A young woman went to her Mother and told her about her life, and how things were so hard. She didn't know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, another arose.

Her Mother took her to the kitchen. She filled 3 pots with water and placed each on the stove. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots; in the second, she placed eggs; and in the third, she placed ground coffee beans. She let them boil - without saying a word.

In about 20 minutes, she turned of the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them on a dish. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her daughter, she said - 'Tell me what you see'.

The daughter looked in exasperation and replied - 'Carrots, eggs, and coffee'.

Her Mother brought her closer and asked her to eat a carrot and describe it to her. They were soft. The Mother then asked her to take and egg and break it open. After pulling off the shell, she noted that it was hard boiled. Finally, the Mother ask that she sip some coffee. She did so, and smiled as she tasted the rich, deep aromatic beverage. 'What does it mean, Mother?'

Her Mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity - boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrots went in strong, hard and unrelenting - however, they softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile - its thin outer shell had protected the interior, but it became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique - as they changed the water!

Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain, do I become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart - Does my shell look the same, but I am bitter and tough with a hardened heart and spirit? Am I the coffee bean, that actually changes the hot water by releasing a fragrance and flavor?

When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?

If you can't tell, I'm still in somewhat of a SCHLUMP! I've heard it said many times that you can't move forward in life until you let go of past failures and heartaches. Evaluating one's life and moving off 'dead center' is always a challenge - am I up to that challenge? I'm still trying to decide whether I'm the limp carrot, or the coffee bean.

Happy Birthday, Fay!

I have been in such a slump lately; so much so that I forgot to send out a tribute to my SIL - who celebrated her birthday on August 3rd {sorry}! This is one gal who is always cheerful, busy and willing to lend a hand. When I had my twins and 3 little boys under the age of 8, she would come every weekend to help out, so that I could get something else done besides changing diapers and feeding little mouths. We would clean the house, do laundry, I would get out to go grocery shopping, and Wood and I would get out of the house for a few hours to go to a movie. For a gal that didn't have children, she sure got the "Baptism by Fire' by being Auntie to mine! Through her job capacity at ZCMI, she was able to get the girls involved in many fashion shows from the time they were 4 years old. She would also use the boys to set-up and help with some technical functions. From the time they were little, she would take them on a one-on-one basis and spend a weekend with them sharing special experiences and doing things that they chose.

She now travels with her hubby to State Fairs and other venues, to assist him while he draws characatures. They make a good team and everyone so enjoys having them both at any gathering.

Hope you had a special birthday, Fay; I have enjoyed being a part of your life.

Anniversary - of sorts!

I went over to visit with Tom and Margie this afternoon, and Tom reminded me that it was 19 years ago today that he had an aortic dissection and was rushed out of the local Sears store on a gurney for emergency surgery. We were all called to the hospital and spent grueling hours awaiting word about whether he would pull through. Luckily for all of us, he did, and we have all enjoyed his wit and sense of humor. But now, he is facing another medical emergency, and will be chatting with a surgeon on the 29th of this month. Hopefully, this man will decide that he is a good enough risk to do the surgery that he so desperately needs. My kids call him the Ever Ready Bunny, cuz he keeps goin' and goin' and goin'. Prayer offered on his behalf, as well as Margie and his daughter Leanne would be appreciated. They have all seen their share of sickness and heartache in the past 19 years, as they have battled with many obstacles. We love you all, and especially want Tom to know that, as a family, we hope and pray for success with this latest battle.

The Surf City All-Star Band aka Jan & Dean

Whitey and I were able to take advantage of tickets from Teri to see Jan & Dean (sans Jan) last night, and spent it under a starry sky listening to:

Jan & Dean
Such hits as “Surf City," “Little Old Lady From Pasadena," “Dead Man's Curve," “Drag City," “Ride the Wild Surf," “Batman" and “Popsicle," "Barbara Ann" , etc.

The duo flourished well into the mid-Sixties, weathering even the British Invasion. But on April 12, 1966, Berry's Stingray slammed into a parked gardener's truck (not at the site mentioned in "Dead Man's Curve," despite legend), and he was barely alive when paramedics came on the scene. It took him years to recover, and entered a decade-long nightmare of physical recovery, drug abuse, and depression. Jan brought the same fierce determination to his recovery as he'd previously poured into his music. By the mid-70's, amazingly, Berry could perform almost at normal, and the duo began an amazing comeback that lasted well into the mid-80's. Berry passed away in 2004. He recorded some solo albums and singles and performed with Dean to the best of his capabilities. On March 26, 2004, Jan died from a seizure.

Contributions to music:
  • Along with the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, Jan Berry helped develop the sound of vocal "surf" and "hot rod" music
  • Berry was a major influence on Wilson's production
  • Bridged the vocal era of doo-wop and the Southern California sound
  • Employed the famous "Wrecking Crew" of L.A. session musicians
  • One of the first rock groups to incorporate classical arrangements
  • Torrance became one of rock's great graphic artists
  • Jan Berry's comeback after a near-fatal crash is one of pop music's most inspiring achievements
I forgot Whitey grew up in a house thinking Eddie Arnold, George Jones, and Patsy Cline were singers - and she would much rather have been attending an Alan Jackson, or Tim McGraw concert. We did have alot of fun 'people watching' tho.

Thanks Teri, for inviting us to use your tickets. It was great entertainment!

Nature's Church . . .

We spent Sunday up to the Dam celebrating Mike's & Matt's birthday {sans Matt}. Got the good beach spot with some big shade trees and tons of ants! Everything I brought home had ants in it; but, on the positive side, the smart people didn't get as sunburned.

Connor tried out his new ankles on the rope swing;

Weston had sand in his hair, his eyes, his nose, his mouth - I can only imagine what his bum looked like after a day of sitting in it!

Laila and Taylor were getting accustomed to the water by the end of the day.

Heidi & Heather were trying their hand at water trapeze or water ballet or something!

The wind kicked up pretty good around 2:30 and I kept trying to get Mike to put his traction kite up in the air; but he was afraid it would dump in the lake and be hard to pull back in. . .so we flew Shari. All in all, it was fun!

THANKS TO MIKE AND SHARI for once again getting up so dang early to get the good beach area!

7.13.2008

Happy Birthday, Mike!

#1 Tiny, frail, spunky! 4lbs. 9oz. of snorting baby boy! He came into our World easily, but with a stubborn streak. With a determination to do it his way – he beat the odds and proved his own strength.

“Holy Crap . . . 37 years old?! What does that make me?” This is the kid who came 2 months earlier than his planned due date! There was no nursery; no clothes; no crib; no indication that we were in the least ready for his arrival. Sure we had planned it – we anticipated it. We thrilled at each kick and roll-over as we watched him do somersaults across my belly. But I never guessed as I went through a whole weekend of labor, that he would catch us by surprise this way. Would this be an indication of how prepared I was for the responsibility of motherhood?

Thanks for sharing in our lives - we marvel at the talents you have and the love that you show your own son. May your hopes and dreams soar as high as the kites you enjoy flying! I love you, Michael.

Memory Lane

MEMORY LANE- This will be fun! I've seen a number of blogs doing this and it looks just too fun to pass up. In fact, I was talking with Whitey about it when kickbutt jumped in and one-up'd me! Here are the directions:

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! I guess good or bad, but be nice!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my blog comments.

Farmington Fiesta Days!

Let the 'Festivus' begin . . . . . Kacy and Hadley rode in a beautiful silver convertible in the parade today - advertising Wild Style where Kacy works. Don't they look wild with their 'pretty in pink' hair?

7.10.2008

Happy Birthday, Matt!

It's hard to believe that 34 years ago, you came bouncing into our life - but here it is! I awoke this morning at 1:12am, just at the time you were born; I thought about calling you and singing Happy Birthday, but knew it might awaken your own baby, so I rethunk!

That didn't stop me from remembering that particular evening leading up to your arrival. Your Dad and I were out with Gary and Mert to a movie {Breezy w/William Holden & Kay Lenz} when I realized I was going into labor. I excused myself and got up to go out and call Dr. Hunter - after various questions, he determined it might be awhile before I actually needed to come to the hospital and told me to enjoy the rest of the movie. When we were leaving there, I called him again to let him know how things were progressing and told him we wanted to go get some ice cream...'Yeah, go ahead', he said! While sitting in Snelgrove's my labor pains became more intense and we decided we should head back home. Gary had just bought a new car, and just kept telling me NOT to have this baby in the back seat, or I'd be sorry! He & Dad gave me a blessing, we called Grandma to come stay with Mike, and we waited and waited for her to come - No Grandma - she had started driving from Farmington and got as far as Bountiful before she realized she had forgotten her purse! Finally we called a neighbor, and headed off to the hospital. We arrived around 1am and you came 12 minutes later. The Doctor cautioned me 'NEVER to wait that long again!'

If Matt could add anything to this or let you know what he thinks of this day - I think the pix on the right would be his contribution! A BIG, juicy raspberry . . . .

You've always been the impetuous one - wanting to experience life, and test the waters at any cost!

I'm so thankful for you in our lives and hope you have an awesome birthday! I love you . . .

7.07.2008

Happy Birthday, Robyn!

Robyn is Paige's youngest daughter, and the grand-daughter of DiAnne and Glen.

Robyn's really excited about turning eight and getting baptized. She just started playing for the Wasatch Flash competition soccer team. They're just beginning soccer practices and she gets to go to a week long camp to learn more soccer skills! She's also just finished a successful softball season where they wanted her to play with the All Star team but we decided one sport was enough for now! She's very athletic and seems to pick up any sport she tries with ease! She's also a great help with all the day care kids!

7.06.2008

Here's a link Whitey sent over this morning;

It has some very eclectic, useful, and fun stuff - I can just see Devry, Heather, and Jenna getting all excited over this one!

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with patriotic quotes that define us as a nation? If these patriotic quotes don't get you in a patriotic spirit, nothing will.

1. "What is the essence of America? Finding and maintaining that perfect, delicate balance between freedom ‘to' and freedom ‘from.'" ~ Marilyn vos Savant

2. "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." ~ Elmer Davis

3. "America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality." ~ Adlai Stevenson

4. "The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." ~ Samuel Adams

5. "Patriotism is easy to understand in America; it means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country." ~ Calvin Coolidge

6. "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty." ~ John F. Kennedy

7. "Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it." ~ George Bernard Shaw

8. "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." ~ Benjamin Franklin

9. "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." ~ Thoreau

10. "I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!" ~ Patrick Henry

On this Independence Day, let us remember the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom. Let us also remember that America is not defined by the politicians who run it, but the people who LOVE it. These patriotic quotes remind us that patriotism in America does not mean following blindly, but rather it means holding to the ideals that gave birth to this great nation.

Life is a gift

The Other Side of 80
by Joye Crouch

'Read the title over again. When you get to be my age I am thankful every day for the gift of life. I have enjoyed my life up to now, and I intend on treating it as a gift and do all in my power to take care of myself in body and spirit. I don’t get to church so I have to do something that will let me through the pearly gates. That is why I do all the crocheting-donating it to charities, the homeless shelters, and other organizations that take care of the ones not as fortunate as I am.'

Hard to believe that just last summer this funny group of old codgers were visiting in the back yard of my cousin after her daughter's wedding ceremony. This summer finds Aunt Joye, Margie, and Tom all struggling with health issues. Even Nadine is looking at possible surgery on her hands for carpal tunnel. Me & Whitey? We're just ornery!

I am including a link: for the obituary of our cousin's grandson who drowned. He will be buried in No. Carolina.

Swimsuit Season

As always, when I need advice I turn to my most trusted friends. I do this because I know you will always be candid and honest with me.

I need your opinion on something that has been bothering me for some time now.

I am counting on you, so please don't let our friendship influence your answer.
Thanks in advance!

Does this bikini make my butt look too big? Hope this put a smile on your face!

Ya-Butt

I just love this photo of Janette on her wedding day with Nadine.

As precocious as Whitey was, Janette was a tender heart! They are sisters, but you’d never know it unless you look into their icy blue eyes, and see their beaming smile; but that’s where the similarities end! Whitey is a ditzy blond {did I say that}, and Nettie is a redhead. Whitey does not have freckles – Janette does not have difficulty knowing what is right and left. They both have many talents – sewing, writing poetry, the love for children, animals, and the great outdoors. Janette loved playing the mandolin for her Dad; Clydene loved teasing her Dad.

Janette has recently jumped on the ‘Bloggin Wagon’ and I’m so glad that what started with Vicky’s family trying to keep in touch with each other, has extended to another limb of the family tree. Now if we can just encourage Vicky to start writing one . . .

Brave Connor!

Connor came thru surgery to correct his flat feet yesterday with flying colors! The doctor and nurses said he was so brave about the whole procedure, and when his Mom asked him if he was afraid at all, he replied 'NO Mom, I was asleep!' He loved showing me the brightly colored royal blue wrappings on his feet, and was even more proud of the light blue one on his wrist, where they had the needles for intravenous, and the tattoo he got. They also gave him a croaky frog and we took him over a game for his playstation. He will not be able to jump or run for at least a month - but can walk on them as soon as he wants! Nothing will keep this guy down . . .

He's so brave, and I so proud of him.

This Weekend in Review!

Occurrences in the past few weeks have led me to think about 3 important aspects in our lives – 1} We have a loving Heavenly Father who is always aware of us; 2} We appreciate the strength and cornerstone in our lives – our families; and 3} gratitude for the value of friendship.

This past weekend was particularly traumatic for a family member when her husband was thrown from his horse, and ended up being transported to the hospital for observation. Altho, it could have been much worse, he came thru with some bruises and a concussion; but having just gone thru a similar experience a year ago with her Father, needless to say the whole family of this brave cowpoke were beside themselves with fear and worry. Thank you God, for watching over him and protecting him from serious injury – and thank you for standing beside the family offering solace to them.

our sight, but they are always looking down upon us."
-Jean Paul Richter

On Friday, Connor had his Kindgergarten graduation - they had a cute musical program, and then handed out their certificates. The parents and grandparents were then invited down to the kids classrooms to see their work and activities for the year with a cute video, which the teacher had a copy of for each child! Congratulations, Connor! You did such a great job with your speaking part and you are now a 1st grader.

On Saturday, about a dozen of us gathered to honor a wonderful sister-in-law who celebrated a fairly monumental birthday on the 14th. I won’t say her age, but let me just tell you that she is an ageless beauty with that amazing Swedish bloodline that keeps them fair-haired, blue eyed and youthful, hopefully forever! We appreciate the example that she has been in our family. We love you, El.

FLOWERS FOR MY FRIEND!
A few weeks ago, I had a disturbing call from the daughter of a long-time friend to let me know that her Mom was in the hospital ICU. Struggling with health issues, I wondered what had been the cause of her hospital stay. On that day I re-learned something important about life: life is primarily about people -- not plans and schedules, not to-do lists and a million tasks left undone -- it's about people.

To love and to know that we are loved is the greatest happiness of existence. And happiness seems to be something that is in short supply for too many of us! My friend reminded me that it is never enough just to love; we must also express it. What good are our affectionate feelings toward others if we don't find ways to let them know?

George William Childs put it like this: "Do not keep the alabaster box of your love and friendship sealed up until your friends are dead. Fill their lives with sweetness. Speak approving, cheering words while their ears can hear them and while their hearts can be thrilled and made happier. The kind things you mean to say when they are gone, say before they go."

All of us need words of encouragement. It leaves us with feeling a satisfying lump of warmth in our chest. Happiness ... may be just a phone call away.

When it hurts to look back and your scared to look ahead you can look beside you and your best friend will be there."

WHITEY

For those in the family unaware of a little toe-headed, precocious and very mischievous imp of a child, I would like to introduce you to 'Whitey'. This is a little girl who wandered up on Main Street in Kaysville, and was encouraging cars to "Come on up and see me sometime" with a Mae West pose {someone I just recently found out she wanted to be when she grew up}. She has grown into a wonderful person who is a comfort and caretaker to her Mother since Clyde passed away last April. She is so talented in so many areas, I can’t begin to tell you. She quilts, she crafts, she gardens, she writes - she is ‘Wonder Whitey’! I encourage you all to take a look at her newest creation – which is going to be a great place to see some of her many sides.
